
General Information
The Charles E. and Geneva S. Scott Scottish Rite Communication Disorders Clinic was established in September 1968 as a training facility for students. As a part of Appalachian State University, the Communication Disorders Clinic is a non-profit organization and is associated with the Department of Language, Reading, and Exceptionalities in the Reich College of Education.
The primary purpose of the Communication Disorders Clinic is the provision of "hands-on" clinical learning experiences for students majoring in Communication Disorders. The secondary purpose is the provision of quality professional services to persons in the region. The Clinic provides prevention, assessment, and treatment of speech, language, swallowing, and hearing disorders, serving people from infancy to geriatrics.

During 2008 the Clinic served 7665 clients for a total of 7554.5 hours of service.
The Communication Disorders Program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The professional staff includes Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists who are licensed by the state of North Carolina and certified by ASHA.

The Communication Disorders Clinic is located on the first floor of University Hall. University Hall is located off of Blowing Rock Road (Hwy. 321).

Follow Hwy 321 into Boone. Go through 4 lights. You will pass Pizza Hut on the right. Turn right on University Hall Drive and come to top of road. If you pass Staples you have gone too far.

Follow Hwy 105 into Boone. Turn right on Blowing Rock Road at the big intersection on 105. Wendy’s restaurant will be on your right. Go through 2nd light and pass Staples on left. Turn left on University Hall Drive and come to top of road.

Follow Hwy 421 into Boone. Turn left onto NC 105 Extension. Go to 2nd light and turn left on Blowing Rock Road at the big intersection. You will see Exxon/Subway on left. Go through 2nd light and pass Staples on left. Turn left on University Hall Drive and go to top of road.
