
General Information
The Charles E. and Geneva S. Scott Scottish Rite Communication Disorders Clinic was established in September 1968 as a training facility for students. As a part of Appalachian State University, the Communication Disorders Clinic is a non-profit organization and is associated with the Department of Language, Reading, and Exceptionalities in the Reich College of Education.
The primary purpose of the Communication Disorders Clinic is the provision of "hands-on" clinical learning experiences for students majoring in Communication Disorders. The secondary purpose is the provision of quality professional services to persons in the region. The Clinic provides prevention, assessment, and treatment of speech, language, swallowing, and hearing disorders, serving people from infancy to geriatrics.

During 2007 the Clinic served 7404 clients for a total of 8841.4 hours of service.
The Communication Disorders Program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The professional staff includes Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists who are licensed by the state of North Carolina and certified by ASHA.

When Arriving to Boone from Highway 421
Northbound: Proceed into Boone on HWY 421 North. At the intersection of HWY 421 and HWY 321 South/Hardin Street, turn left to approach the campus area. At the first stoplight, turn right onto Rivers Street (Subway/ Klondike will be on the left). Proceed to third stoplight and turn right. Edwin Duncan Hall is on your left.
Southbound: Proceed into Boone on HWY 421/321 Southbound. Continue on HWY 321 South /Hardin Street to approach the campus area. At the first stoplight on HWY 321/Hardin Street, turn right onto Rivers Street (Subway/ Klondike will be on the left). Proceed to third stoplight and turn right. Edwin Duncan Hall is on your left.
When arriving to Boone from Highway 321
Northbound: Proceed into Boone on HWY 321 North/Blowing Rock Road. At the eighth stoplight (intersection of Rivers Street and HWY 321-- Holmes Convocation Center will be on the left), turn left onto Rivers Street. Proceed to third stoplight and turn right. Edwin Duncan Hall is on your left.
When Arriving to Boone from Highway 105
Northbound: Proceed into Boone on HWY 105 North to the intersection of HWY 105 and HWY 321/Blowing Rock Road. Turn left onto HWY 321 North/Blowing Rock Road. At the second stoplight (intersection of Rivers Street and HWY 321-- Holmes Convocation Center will be on the left), turn left onto Rivers Street. Proceed to third stoplight and turn right.
